PATATOES

Our white potatoes (var. Kennebec) are grown using fertilizers / treatments permitted by the organic method. We try to limit the use of chemical treatments, preventing the spread of dorifera  shifting cultivation every year.


The gathering has been made by hand until the year 2010, or digging potatoes with a hoe.


The potatoes are selected to provide a product with good organoleptic characteristics, however, you may experience some cosmetic and morphological defects not affecting the quality of the product:


irregularly shaped potato: the defect is due to the growth in compacted soil or to the presence of stones.


potato with abrasions and cuts: the defect is due to the use of hoe for collection. Trim off the scar and the rest of the potatoes is intact.


potato with small holes: it is due to the feeding activity of some insects. The presence of these defects is due to the limited, and in case of the 2010 season, non-use of treatments.

In the next sowing season (April) we will also introduce the potato Castagno d'Andrea, an old local variety.

CABBAGE (BLACK, HOOD, VERZA, BROCCOLI)

The production of 2010 was supported with granular mixed manure and defended from the “cavolaia” with a solution of Pyrethrum - the last treatment was done at the end of September. The cold and windy climate of the area next to the ridge has helped us to keep the population of “cavolaia” contained.

 OTHER VEGETABLES

Eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini, fennel complete the "basket" of horticultural products. Even for this limited as much as possible the use of treatments, even if permitted by the specifications of organic farming.

FRUITS

Old local cultivars of fruit were planted in the last 3 years: thigh pear, pear rust, pear melon, pear lemon, apple petal, plum “drop of gold”, etc. are some of the specimens planted.
